Delicious Doggie Dishes


My Daughter gave me a copy of February's 2001 'Better Homes and Gardens'
with these wonderful recipes for our dogs. She knows that I'm always looking
for new things to make for my Great Danes.
I thought I would put the recipes on my Dane Page to share with others.

...SHOVEL'S DOGGIE BISCUITS...
A healthy snack for dogs of all ages


1 carrot, grated
1 zucchini, grated
1 egg
3 tablespoons raw pet mince
8 tablespoons plain flour

Preheat oven to 190 C and grease oven tray. Combine carrot, zucchini, egg
and mince. Add flour and mix thoroughly. Shape mixture into short sausage shapes
(1 tablespoon at a time). Flatten slightly and place on an oven tray.
Cook for 20 minutes or until brown. Keep biscuits refrigerated.
Makes 12 - 14




...HONEY'S BISCUIT TREATS...
Wholesome treats for an active dog


1/2 cup cultured buttermilk
3 tablespoons molasses
2 tablespoons honey
3 cups wholemeal flour
2 tablespoons olive oil

Preheat oven to 170 C and grease an oven tray. Combine milk, molasses and honey.
Add flour gradually, mixing until a dough forms. Let stand for 15 minutes, then
add the olive oil. Roll into balls, coat with flour and bake for 30 minutes.
Keeps in an airtight container for up to two weeks. Can be frozen.
Makes about 40 treats




...NIMBUS'S DINNER...
Perfect for growing puppies


2 kg lean beef or kangaroo mince
3 cups water
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 1/2 cups raw pasta (or white rice, oats or barley)
1 cup of mixed diced vegetables

In a large saucepan, cover the mince with water, add garlic and bring to the boil.
Add the pasta and vegetables and cook on low heat until soft, about 40 minutes.
Refrigerate; Warm before serving.
Makes about 10 meals




...CALLIE'S HEALTHY DINNER...
With veges, rice and fresh garlic


1 cup steamed, mashed potato, pumpkin or sweet potato
2 tablespoons safflower oil
500g lean kangaroo mince
2 cups cooked white rice
1 small clove garlic,chopped
In a large bowl, stir the safflower oil into the mashed potato.
Mix in the raw kangaroo mince, cooked rice, chopped garlic and pumpkin seeds.
Serve at room temperature.
Makes one meal for a large dog




...MISCHIEF'S DINNER...
Ideal for dogs with sensitive skin


200g broccoli
500g fresh lean beef mince
1 cup Eukanuba dry food
1 teaspoon Missing Link (food supplement available from pet shops)

Chop broccoli into bite-size pieces and steam.
Combine broccoli, raw mince, Eukanuba and Missing Link.
Makes one meal
