I had never heard of this expression 'Rainbow Bridge' before, and I think it is wonderful.
I heard about this by visiting other websites and reading about it on mailing lists.
When I think of my babies that have gone to Pets Heaven, I feel so much more comforted.
And I know these cute little angels are watching over them for me.
My Precious little Toy Chihuahua - CARA - 12th April 1981 - 28th August 1998
She was 17 years and 4 1/2 months old.
Cara came to me when she was just 6 weeks old...I bought her from a friend,
and she was the smallest of the litter. She was a double coat and a little bundle of fur.
For such a little dog, she was very brave and strong. Cara always let me know when someone was walking up the path to my front door, and she was very protective of my daughter and myself.
Cara loved stuffed toys and she was always going into my daughter's room and pinching her teddies. Sometimes she would pick the biggest one off Tracy's bed and drag it to
my room, then she would cry because she couldn't jump up on my bed with it.
And 9 times out of 10, I would give in to her and put it on the bed for her. Then Cara
would curl up with it and go to sleep. Cara had her own teddies/toys, but Tracy's
teddies always seemed to be better to her...
Cara went nearly everywhere with me. She loved going in the car,
she loved going for walks, although she'd only walk about 20 feet, then she would cry
to be picked up, and of course I did so...lol. She was my spoilt little girl.
There was a time at home that we had 5 other dogs as well, and yep,
Little Cara was the boss...lol
There was a Rottweiller, Two Great Danes, a Lab-cross and my daughter's dog, a
Staffy-cross. Cara had them all wrapped around her little paw.... :)
When Cara was about 8 years old she had her first seizure. It was scary at first,
as I didn't know what to do. All I did was hold her and comfort her and in a short
while she would come out of it. I took her to her Vet, but because she was always over it
by the time he saw her, the Vet didn't know what was causing the problem.
She didn't have these seizures very often, but as she got on in years, the seizures
did became more frequent and lasted longer each time.
Then in August 1998, she had her final seizure and she went into a coma.
I took her to the Vet, and I knew that her time had come and I had to do the right thing
for her. I was crying the whole time and as the Vet gave her that last needle I held her
in my arms. The Vet left me alone with her and I told her how much I loved her and
I thanked her for giving me so much joy all the years we had together.
"Cara, My sweet little girl, it's been nearly three years and there's not a day
that goes by where you aren't in my thoughts. Always know that I love you
and miss you."
"This little teddy-angel is for you, Cara."
THE RAINBOW BRIDGE
Just this side of heaven,
Is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been
Especially close to someone here,
They go to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills,
For all of our special friends,
So they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine,
And our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who have been ill and old,
Are restored to health and vigor,
Those who were hurt or maimed,
Are made whole and strong again,
Just as we remember them in our dreams.
The animals are happy and content,
Except for one small thing.
They each miss someone very special to them,
Who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together,
But the day comes when one suddenly stops,
And looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent,
His eager body begins to quiver.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group,
Flying over the green grass,
His legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted,
And when you and your special friend finally meet,
You cling together in joyous reunion,
Never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face,
Your hands again caress the beloved head,
And you look once more
Into the trusting eyes of your pet,
So long gone from your life,
But never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.
